How to use Salvus
Set it up once and Salvus looks out for you on every drive after that. Here's how to get it running on your phone.
Set up
Set Salvus up for the road
Location is the one permission Salvus cannot work without. Notifications are optional — you are warned out loud either way. Pick your phone below for step-by-step instructions.

Allow location access
This is the one Salvus genuinely needs. It uses your speed and location to detect risky driving around you, fully anonymously. Choose “While Using the App” when prompted.

Set location to “Always”
This is what keeps Salvus working with the screen off and the phone in your pocket. Open Settings › Salvus › Location and choose “Always”. Salvus keeps only your latest position, cleared within about 10 minutes of you stopping; only an alert that fires is kept longer, for up to 30 days.

Notifications — optional
Tap Allow if you would also like warnings on your lock screen. Decline and you are still warned: during a drive Salvus speaks or sounds the warning itself. You can change your mind later in Settings › Notifications › Salvus.

Tap Sound on the dashboard to pick a short tone, a spoken warning, or silence — separately for speeding vehicles, crash black-spots and hazards other drivers report. It is free, and it plays through a locked screen and a phone on silent.

If a risk event happens within range, you get a warning. If you create one, others are warned anonymously. You can also mark a hazard yourself with one tap, whenever it is safe and legal to do so — once a second driver marks the same spot, everyone approaching it is warned.

Risk detected nearby
If any Salvus driver within range triggers a risk event, you're warned in about a second — out loud, so you never have to look down.

Always anonymous
Alerts never reveal who caused the event, only that a risky situation is close to you.

No alerts about you
Your own speeding never alerts you. Your device only helps protect others, anonymously.

Smart cooldown
After a warning, Salvus waits at least 2 minutes before the next one, so you're never spammed. Pro lets you set that separately for speeding vehicles, crash black-spots and reported hazards — anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.
